“The pension reform is essential and must be parametric”, estimates Gérard Larcher (LR)

Gérard Larcher, President LR of the Senate, is the guest of the “4 Vérités”, Wednesday 9 June.

The President of the Republic was slapped on Tuesday, June 8, during a trip to the Drôme. “It is first of all an intolerable, unacceptable act, which is an attack, through the Head of State, on the Republic and its values”, explains Gérard Larcher, President of the Senate and guest of the “4 Vérités”, Wednesday 9 June. “[Cet acte] must lead us to reflect on this violence that we can feel rising in the country. In 2020, 1,300 local elected officials were physically attacked. There are attacks by firefighters, police officers, teachers, journalists. This reality of violence is also reflected on social networks ”, indicates Gérard Larcher (LR).

“The return to financial equilibrium in this country requires a pension reform”

How to lower the temperature? “By the vigor of the democratic debate but [aussi] by being particularly attentive to what we say, not to contribute to this atmosphere which aims at a confrontation. […] The responsibility of the politicians is to lower the tension in this country, it is to go out to meet the country, to tell the truth, but never to take the routes of violence. Behind the violence of the debate, we arrive at physical violence ”, warns the President of the Senate.

“Pension reform is essential. It is up to the Head of State and the Prime Minister to decide when to hire him. […] This must be a parametric reform, it is a reform which must allow tomorrow to preserve the amount of pensions and not to increase contributions. […] I think it’s really a presidential issue. The truth today is that we have a 20 billion euro deficit in the pension system and that the return to financial equilibrium in this country requires a pension reform ”, believes Gérard Larcher.

When should we withdraw from aid to companies linked to the health crisis? “As quickly as possible, as and when”, concludes the President of the Senate.
