Politics: the coronavirus impacts the social conference in Matignon

The social conference on Monday, October 26 in Matignon was to take stock of the current issues, but the coronavirus epidemic has upset the agenda.

Jean Castex meets the social partners for a social conference, Monday October 26. The agenda has been turned upside down by the pandemic. Live from Matignon, journalist Christelle Méral explains that the Prime Minister should announce the postponement of the unemployment insurance reform, which would come into effect on April 1, 2021. “This is another postponement of this controversial reform. This may appear as a concession vis-à-vis the unions who demanded its abandonment, but also as a consequence of the crisis which affects the most vulnerable ”, reports the journalist.

17 sites had to be tackled

“For the unions, this is not the time to put this reform back on the agenda”, reports Christelle Méral. “At the start of this social conference, 17 projects had to be tackled”, explains the journalist from France Télévisions. The government must focus on immediate responses to the crisis.
