The payment of the back-to-school allowance, intended to help low-income families meet back-to-school expenses, began on Tuesday, August 18. More than three million households will receive this aid, increased this year by 100 euros per child due to the health crisis.

Tuesday, August 18, more than three million families will receive the back-to-school allowance. For each child, aged 6 to 18, the assistance is between 469 and 503 euros, depending on the income of each household, the number of dependent children and the level of education. In all, five million children are affected. The amount of the re-entry bonus is this year increased by 100 euros, due to the crisis linked to Covid-19. A measure announced by the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, to the National Assembly on July 15, during his general policy speech.

An automatic payment

The allowance is intended to help low-income households meet back-to-school expenses, such as the purchase of supplies or clothing. Except in special cases, nothing needs to be done. The payment is made automatically. Households in Reunion Island and Mayotte received the back-to-school allowance on August 4.
