APL reform: what will change on January 1, 2021

Postponed several times, the reform of the APL, which should make it possible to calculate housing assistance in real time, based on income, will finally come into force on January 1, 2021. “Until now, the amount of housing assistance was calculated on the basis of wages or social benefits two years ago. With the reform, it is the income of the last 12 months that will be studied and an update will be made every three months ”, specifies the journalist of France Televisions, Justine Weyl, on the set of the 13 Hours of France 2.

Between 500 and 700 million euros for the State

The gap that may have existed is therefore removed, so that the housing aid corresponds to the current situation, and not to that of two years ago. However, this aid will decrease more quickly for all those who are currently earning more than during the reference period, in particular students who have found work or the unemployed who have found a job. Those who experience a sudden drop in their income, like an employee who loses his job, will receive aid more quickly. The reform should allow the state to save between 500 and 700 million euros.
